The BCSB has ten directors. They are a mixture of representatives from sponsoring associations and independent members. Independent directors always form the majority of the board.

Gerard Lemos CMG – Chairman
Gerard Lemos is a partner at social researchers Lemos and Crane. He is the Deputy Chair of the British Council, Chair of Akram Khan Dance Co. and Chairman of the Notting Hill Housing Group.
Jenny Watson – Deputy Chairman
Jenny Watson is a director of Global Partners and Associates. Jenny is currently the Chair of the Equal Opportunities Commission, and Deputy Chair of the Committee on Radioactive Waste Management. She has broader consumer interests as a member of the Advertising Standards Authority’s Advertising Advisory Committee. She sits on the Council of the Women’s Library at London Metropolitan University, and is a former Chair of Fawcett, a not-for-profit organisation campaigning for equality between women and men. She has almost 20 years’ experience of leading campaigns in the not for profit sector and has held senior roles at Charter88, Victim Support, and the Human Rights Act Research Unit at King’s College, London..
Claire Ighodaro spent most of her career with BT. The positions she held there included, Programme Director of a major joint venture in Germany; Head of Group Quality; and Finance Director, broadband. She was worldwide President of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants and she is the co-author “Ethical, Social and Environmental Accountability”.
Amanda Jordan OBE
Amanda Jordan is Chairman of the SMART Company, a consulting business which specialises in corporate social responsibility. She was previously Head of Public Affairs at NatWest following her early career in the voluntary sector. Amanda is Chair of One London (the London Enterprise Agency), a trustee of the Money Advice Trust and Deputy Chair of the National Literacy Trust. She was formerly an advisor to the government’s Social Exclusion Unit on business issues.
Prof Kempson is well known to and respected by consumer groups, Government and the financial services industry alike and has overseen two independent reviews of the Banking Codes. Prof Kempson runs the Personal Financial Research Centre at Bristol University and is an internationally known authority on consumer financial issues, especially those relating to personal borrowing
Alan Whiting was Director of Financial Regulation, covering banks, building societies and friendly societies, at HM Treasury. More recently, he was Executive Director, Regulation & Compliance at the London Metal Exchange.

BCSB Directors & Staff
Seymour Fortescue – Chief Executive & Director
Seymour Fortescue spent 26 years working for Barclays Bank, where he was Head of Marketing, Chief Executive of Barclaycard and Director, UK Personal Sector. Since leaving Barclays in 1991 he has worked in the voluntary sector as Director of Finance and Fundraising, Imperial Cancer Research Fund and in the public sector as Chief Executive, Health Education Authority. He is Chairman of the charity BookPower.
Adrian Lloyd – Compliance Director
Adrian Lloyd worked within Barclays Bank for 29 years in the UK and overseas. He spent the last 10 years as Compliance Director for the Bank, and then Business Standards Director for the Barclays Retail Network. He joined the BCSB in his present role in November 1999.
Paul Smith – Head of Compliance Monitoring
Paul Smith joined the BCSB in August 2003 having worked for Barclays Bank for 27 years. As a Senior Manager he had responsibility for operational risk management and monitoring and other roles included audit, recoveries and branch banking experience. During his career with Barclays Paul worked in the UK and overseas both in retail and business banking.

Sue Scott – Head of Policy & Legal
Prior to joining the Banking Code Standards Board, Sue was the Legal & Policy Director of the Mortgage Code Compliance Board from June 2000 to March 2005. Amongst other things, she was responsible for the development of MCCB policy and Registration Rules, the review and implementation of the MCCB disciplinary process and the drafting of MCCB responses to the FSA’s draft proposals for mortgage regulation.
Before joining the MCCB , Sue was Head of Legal Services at Woolwich plc and a member of the Woolwich’s Executive Management team. She was responsible for a Legal Services team of 36, and advised the Woolwich Group on new business ventures and acquisitions and the impact of new legislation, regulation and codes of practice on the Group’s businesses.
Sue is a former member of the Council of Mortgage Lenders’ Legal Advisory Panel.
Jane Doe – Senior Compliance Manager
Jane Doe has been working for the BCSB since January 2001. Prior to this she worked for Legal & General for 12 years. Roles included Compliance Manager, Banking, and Chief Underwriter, L&G Bank (Mortgages). She has also worked for Canadian Imperial Bank, Citibank & Barclays.
Gaye Kirby – Office Manager
Gaye Kirby joined the BCSB in April 2005 having spent the last 14 years working at London Marriage Guidance. She was Assistant Finance Officer for 8 years and then took the role of Assistant Fundraiser and Centre Manager.
Jane McCue – Senior Help Desk Manager
Jane McCue worked as a Legal Officer at the Office of the Banking Ombudsman for three years. She qualified as a solicitor in the Banking department of a City law firm, where she worked for five years.
Jack Hadlington – Help Desk Manager
Jack Hadlington joined BCSB in September 2003 having spent more than 36 years in banking with Midland Bank and HSBC. During that time he held management posts in Operations, Training, Credit, Corporate and in branches. He now tutors on a part-time basis for both the University of Central England and the Institute of Financial Services.
Hilary Putt – Help Desk Manager
Hilary Putt worked as a legal officer at the Office of the Banking Ombudsman for 3 years. She qualified as a solicitor and worked in the litigation department of a City law firm for 5 years.
Viraj Theberis – Help Desk Manager
Viraj Theberis joined the BCSB in September 2005. Prior to this, he has worked for Barclays Bank as a Business Support Services Manager. He gained his Financial Planning Certificate whilst working at Zurich Financial Services and has worked for Citibank in their mortgage repossessions department. Viraj has also worked for Card Protection Plan, managing a team within their Customer Services department.
